Faith In the News

Mid-America ATTC has developed a 2008 version of the Alcohol Awareness Month (April) faith community bulletin insert.  This product can be easily downloaded and used by churches, temples and mosques for their Sunday/Sabbath-day bulletins, newsletters or bulletin boards.  The 5½" X 8½" double-sided informational sheet provides:

  • information about the disease of alcoholism
  • effectiveness of evidence-based treatment in bringing about recovery
  • what persons can do to become more informed about this disease
  • what persons can do to help others suffering from alcohol addiction
  • what faith communities can do to provide support services

The bulletin insert in pdf is available in both color and black & white.  Both can be downloaded here:

Certificate Program
The School of Christian Ministry

As part of the Mid-Atlantic Faith-based and Community Initiatives effort, we established an educational partnership with Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond in the School of Christian Ministry.  This Christian leadership certificate program is designed for persons working in congregations who do not have a theological advanced degree, but who desire to deepen their knowledge and to apply it to their paid or volunteer ministry within their congregations.  This is a web-based program that offers students the opportunity to choose individual courses that meet their goals, or complete a program of study in a concentration area.  Courses run in 5 week intensive formats for a total of 20 contact hours each.  Our ATTC provides the instructional design and course instructors for concentration areas related to substance use disorders.  Visit BTSR for more information.

Certificate in Spiritual Caregiving to Help Addicted Persons and Families

NAADAC, The Association for Addiction Professionals in conjunction with NACoA, the National Association for Children of Alcoholics, have created a certificate program to enhance the ability for individuals to help congregants and faith-community deal with the devastating impact of addiction.  This certificate is designed to provide basic knowledge about addiction, provide opportunities to learn about treatment and recovery resources in the community, enhance skills in recognizing alcoholism and drug addiction and provide a framework to help hurting children living in families with addicted parents.
