Introduction
to Motivational Interviewing
This course
will provide an introduction to Motivational Interviewing
(MI), a counseling style conceptualized by William
R. Miller and Stephen Rollnick popularized by their
1991 book, Motivational interviewing: preparing people
to change addictive behavior, which is now available
in a second edition (2002).
The
course focus is on the foundational elements of MI
and the spirit or counseling style that underlies
its techniques. The Stages of Change, a separate yet
compatible model of change, will also be explored.
This course is introductory and geared toward people
with no or little exposure to MI. The ATTC plans to
develop a more advanced course to be offered in the
future.
Thank-you SO much for this information and training. I have never had a course like this one and have learned so much. I liked the weekly assignments and that we had deadlines, feedback and course instructors support. I would recommend this program to other counselors. -
