Course Logistics

  • I’ve never taken a course from you before. How does this work?
    The courses are completely online and you work at your own pace. An instructor provides course/assignment feedback and answers questions. Some courses may have alternate formats which may include in-person meetings, or outside readings that will be determined by the individual course instructor.
  • What is AccessEd?
    AccessEd isd the Mid-Atlantic ATTC’s Center for Online Courses.
  • How do I turn in my assignments?
    Some assignments are posted to disucssion board, and other assignments are emailed directly to instructor. This is up to the discretion of the instuctor, and you will be given this information within the course readings and assignments.
  • Is it all on the web?
    The course is completely online and accessible through blackboard.vcu.edu
    Some instructors may choose to have in-person meetings with their classes.
  • Is it self-paced?
    The course is self-paced over a five week period. However, new material is presented/discussed each week, therefore it is recommended that you try to complete readings and assignments on a weekly basis. Depending upon the instructor and the course, you may be asked to complete certain readings or assignments by a requested date.
  • Are there activities scheduled for certain times, or can I work on it whenever I want?
    You may do the course work whenever it is convenient for you, within the five week period.

 

  • Do I have to be online at certain times?
    No, because the course is self-paced and completely online, you may log into Blackboard at any time to access the course.
  • How long does the course last?
    Courses typically lasts five weeks.
  • When do I get my password?
    You will receive your password via email the first day of the course before the end of the business day.
  • How will I know if I have been accepted?
    You will receive a confirmation email of your acceptance into the course after both your course registration and payment have been received. It is suggested that you submit your payment and registration together, as registrations are put on hold until payment is received.
  • What credits will I receive?
    Each course is worth 10 Contact Hours. All courses are SACAVA, NAADAC, and NBCC approved. The courses within the Adolescent Series and Ethics Series are NASW approved.
  • I have finished the course, when will I receive my certificate?
    Certificates are distributed by mail to successful course completers within one month of the end of the course.

  • What are the requirements for successfully completing the course?
    To receive course credit you must complete the following
    -pre evaluation
    -all assignments as requried by the course instructor
    -post evaluation
    -receive a minimum of 70% on the post test
  • What is the difference between a contact hour, and a continuing education unit?
    Our courses are worth 10 contact hours. 10 contact hours are the equivalent of 1.0 continuing education units.
  • Are they college credits?
    Our online courses do not count as college credit.
  • How do I register?
    Register online at http://www.mid-attc.org/accessed/
    Click the registration tab at the top of the page for instructions on registering. Registration is not complete until after we have received both your online registration and payment. If you have difficulties registering, please call the Mid-Atlantic ATTC at 804-828-9910.
  • How much does the course cost?
    All online courses cost $50.00 (US) each.
  • How do I pay?
    You may pay by check or credit card. We accept Visa, American Express, Discover and Master Card.

Techincal Difficulties

  • The class was supposed to start today and I don’t have my password, what do I do?
    Passwords are distributed the first day of class through email before the end of the business day. Passwords are only sent to those who are successfully registered and have submitted full payment. If you have paid and registered and still do not have your password, contact the Mid-Atlantic ATTC.
  • I’m having trouble with blackboard, who do I contact?
    If you are unable to resolve the situation yourself, contact the Mid-Atlantic ATTC at (804) 828-9910. Please be aware that the Mid-Atlantic ATTC does not offer Technical Support. However, we will attempt to help you resolve the problem or we will refer you to the appropriate source.
  • I am having trouble signing in, what do I do?
    Double check to make sure you are entering your user name and password correctly. If you continue to have difficulty, call the Mid-Atlantic ATTC. Be aware that you cannot access a course before the first day of class.

Blackboard Logistics

  • How does blackboard work?
    For guidance on how to use the blackboard system, please refer to the new student guide within your course on blackboard or at http://www.mid-attc.org/accessed/.
  • When do I get my password?
    You will receive your password the first day of the course through email before the end of the business day.
  • Where do I find syllabus, assignments, modules, announcements, email, etc.?
    Blackboard is divided into sections based on content. You can find what you are looking for by browsing through the sections by clicking on the buttons on the left hand side of the Blackboard screen.
  • Where do I find a listing of the assignments?
    They are listed within each module and are within the assignments link in the Blackboard Menu.
  • Will I ever meet my classmates or instructor in person?
    No, the discussion board takes the place of face-to-face dicussion. Some instructors may schedule additional in-person meetings.

  • Who do I contact regarding the specifics of a particular course?
    First, check the AccessEd web page to learn about any individual course. If your question relates to course content, contact the course instructor. If your question relates to course logisticss, contact the Mid-Atlantic ATTC at 804-828-9910.
  • Who do I contact regarding difficulties with course administration?
    First, check the AccessEd web page. If you do not find your answer there, call the Mid-Atlantic ATTC.

Course Tips

  • Do not post your assignments anonymously within the discussion board, as your instructor will not be able to give you credit for your work.
  • It is important that you save copies of your assignments.
  • Read the modules before completing the assignments.
  • Please do not use attachments when posting responses or assignments within the discussion board. Post your responses directly within the text box of the discussion board forum.
